St. Philip's Anglican Church, Etobicoke - Room for All and a Place for You

New to St. Philip’s?

Got Questions? We’ve Got Answers!

We know that starting something new often comes with a lot of questions. That’s why we’ve gathered some of the most common ones below. We hope these answers help guide you as you settle in.

But don’t worry, if you have other questions or need a bit more personal guidance, we’re here for you. Reach out to our Incumbent or Parish Administrator—both are more than happy to chat and connect you with our friendly Newcomer Support Team. We’re excited to walk alongside you as you become part of our community!

Feel free to ask away—we’re always ready to help!

How long is the service?

On average, our services last between 60 and 70 minutes. Just enough time to connect with God, engage in prayer, and feel the warmth of community.

What am I expected to do?

Nothing at all—unless you feel inspired to! Whether you want to join in with the prayers, sing along with the hymns, or simply sit back and soak in the moment, you’re welcome to participate in whatever way feels right for you.

Do you have a children’s program?

Yes, we do! Our children’s program is vibrant and fun, designed for kids aged 3 to 12. Children start the service with their families for the first 10–15 minutes, and after “Children’s Time,” they’re invited to join their Sunday School group.
For younger children, we also have a play area near the piano, complete with toys and a play mat—feel free to let them explore while you enjoy the service!

How formal is the service? And what should I wear?

Our services blend the best of tradition with a relaxed, welcoming vibe. The style is warm, inclusive, and comfortable—think less stiff formality, more joyful reverence.
As for what to wear? Anything that makes you feel comfortable! Some folks come in their Sunday best, others in jeans and T-shirts, and everything in between. Whether you’re dressed to the nines or in your comfiest clothes, you’ll fit right in!

What happens after the service?

Once the service concludes, the priest gives a blessing, and we all enjoy the postlude as the clergy process down the aisle. Afterward, you’re invited to join us for coffee, tea, and delicious treats in the parish hall. It’s a lovely time to mingle, meet new faces, and share in conversation. Just follow the group down the path or ask a greeter for directions!

Do you offer special services?

Yes! Communion is celebrated every Sunday, and we hold special services for occasions like Christmas, Easter, and Holy Week.
Throughout the year, we also offer special events such as Lessons and Carols and the Blessing of the Animals. Baptisms are arranged during regular Sunday services, and weddings and funerals can be planned in conversation with the priest. For all the latest details, check our homepage for dates and times!

How is St. Philip’s funded?

As a church, we’re fully supported by our community—through offerings, donations, fundraising events, and the proceeds from our cemetery. These funds help us maintain our worship services, support children and youth programs, pay our staff, and carry out outreach initiatives.
Your contributions are not “fees” or “dues”—they are gifts of thanksgiving and love. Plus, they’re tax-deductible!

How can I make an offering? What is PAR?

Making an offering is easy! You’ll find giving envelopes in the pews. Simply fill one out with your name and address, and you’ll receive a tax receipt at the end of the year.
During the service, the plate will be passed around—feel free to give, or simply pass it along if you’re not making an offering that day.
You can also set up PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance) through your bank for automatic weekly giving. Contact the church office for details!

I’m part of the LGBTQ2S+ community. Am I welcome?

Absolutely! We celebrate and welcome everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or background. We offer blessings for same-gender couples, and as the wider Anglican Church continues to evolve, we hope to soon offer weddings for same-gender couples as well.

How can I speak with the priest?

We’re always happy to chat! You can reach out to our priest directly via email or phone, or simply stop by the church office to schedule an appointment. You’re also welcome to catch the priest after Sunday service for a quick chat.
